Grindelfest on Joseph-Carlebach Platz

On Sunday, September 14, 2025, the Bornplatz Synagogue Foundation presented itself from 12:00 to 17:00 with a stand at the Grindelfest on Joseph-Carlebach-Platz. The colorful district festival attracted numerous visitors and offered music, culture, children's programs, gastronomy and a variety of information stands.

Musical highlights provided Stella Morgenstern and Andreas Hecht, who had been engaged by the Bornplatz Synagogue Foundation and performed twice for 30 minutes each and delighted the audience with their Yiddish and folk songs.

The two also received a lot of attention Talks organized by the Bornplatz Synagogue Foundation:

  • Chairman of the Board of Trustees discussed in the first round Daniel Sheffer, Cornelius Göbel from HSV and rabbi Shlomo Bistritzky via “Diversity, sport and Jewish life in Grindelviertel”. The talk was supplemented by the appearance of HSV dinosaur mascot Hermann.

  • In the second round, the chairman of the Jewish Community spoke Philipp Stricharz, Till Steffen (Alliance 90/The Greens), MdB and the Chair of the Board of Trustees Daniel Sheffer via “the significance of Bornplatz for Hamburg's identity and the future of the community”.

A highlight — especially for the youngest guests — was once again the HSV mascot, who also took many cheerful photos off stage.

Grindelfest provided a lively platform for Combining memory and the futureto make dialogue and diversity visible and to strengthen the presence of the Jewish community in the middle of the district.
