The Foundation's mission statement
Die Stiftung Bornplatzsynagoge verbindet in einem gemeinsamen Streben Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft.
PAST
Our focus is on honoring the former Jewish life before 1938 in all its significance, which - due to the crimes of the Nazi era - will never again be possible in this country in this form. The looting and destruction of the once magnificent synagogue, a painful part of our history, will remain unforgotten.
PRESENT
The Foundation is passionately committed to the new construction of the Bornplatz Synagogue in order to create a symbol of strength and resistance. We are committed to remembering the crimes of National Socialism in order to learn from the darkness of the past and shape a hopeful future.
FUTURE
In Hamburg and Germany, the Bornplatz Synagogue Foundation stands for Jewish life, diversity and community. Our mission is to re-establish visible and tangible Jewish life in the heart of the Hanseatic city. Through education, culture and dialog, we create a bridge between generations and cultures in order to break down prejudices and promote harmonious coexistence.
Together we are striving for a future in which the Bornplatz Synagogue becomes a place of remembrance, education and cohesion and shines as a landmark of cosmopolitanism and Jewish identity in our city.
