“Why me?” Commemoration ceremony on the occasion of the 1938 Reichspogromnacht
November 9, 2024
18:00 on Joseph-Carlebach-Platz in Grindelviertel
The Bornplatz Synagogue Foundation and the Jewish Community in Hamburg invite you to a memorial service on the occasion of the Reichspogrom night on November 9, 1938.
It has never been more important to stand up for remembrance.
After sunset, we will gather on the former Bornplatz, today Joseph-Carlebach-Platz, and remember the countless victims of National Socialism in the illuminated Grindel quarter.
Youth 1938 and 2024
Thousands of people from Hamburg were ostracized, hostile, insulted and in the end deported and murdered.
We want to remember children and young people whose future was relentlessly and irrevocably stolen. Like Hilde Dublon, whose fate exemplifies the cruelty of the persecution by the National Socialists. She is the girl on the posters and flyers. She may have asked herself, “Why me?”
Never again is now
Today, in 2024, Jewish children and young people are again being hostile, insulted and threatened with violence. Many do not dare to make their Jewish identity visible.
What can you do?
Hamburg stands up. Against anti-Semitism. Against hate and hate speech. There are many of us. Let us send out a sign of solidarity.
In addition to Citizenship President Carola Veit, representatives of the Hamburg Jewish Community and young people will pay tribute to the memory of the Holocaust.
Bringing candles is welcome and encouraged.
“They are people who hate, insult, and are violent. And they are also people who want to understand, understand and remember. [..] “Never again; is the inheritance and task for all generations. With this event, we want to commemorate and inform. ”
Daniel Sheffer | Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bornplatz Synagogue Foundation
